Laboratories of Nanotechnology in Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology

The Nanotechnology in Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology laboratories focus on basic and applied research in veterinary and clinical microbiology. The main emphasis is on the study of new types of antibacterial agents based on nanomaterials, peptides, and proteins. These materials serve as alternatives to antibiotic preparations or, on the contrary, improve the effectiveness of antibiotics against resistant pathogenic bacteria. The lab aims to understand the cellular processes involved in the evolution and spread of bacterial resistance and virulence through multi-omics approaches. We are also investigating the effect of extreme conditions on bacteria treated with components mimicking agricultural residues as possible protectors against e.g. UV radiation. Finally, research is focused on the identification of microorganisms from clinical and veterinary samples. The obtained microbial cultures are genotyped and characterized for antibiotic resistance and pathogenicity. By collaborating with scientific groups of different focuses and following the issues of pathogenesis of microorganisms, the research in our team is unconventional with a continuous progressive vision.
