Vojtěch Adam as the future rector of Mendel University in Brno
From next year, our head Vojtěch Adam will be the new rector of Mendel University in Brno. He was elected by the Academic Senate on Monday, October 18, 2021 in the afternoon. The election itself was preceded by the introduction of candidates and subsequent debate. Candidates answered questions from the audience and commented on questions about the future functioning of the university.
Vojta began his 15-minute speech by presenting visions for the development of Mendel University in Brno for the next four-year period, which describes the phrase “MENDELU is life, life is MENDELU”. Megatrends, such as de-globalization, the principle of one health and advanced editing of the genome of organisms, surround us today and every day and we should actively respond to them. “I am convinced that Mendel University in Brno can play an important role in a changing world,” said Vojta in connection with these key points.
There were several cross-sectional topics of Vojta’s plans for the development of Mendel University in Brno. One of the big challenges will be the active support of beginners and individual departments, which form the core of the entire university, with a focus on balanced remuneration. Digitization, which is very much linked to rapidly changing times, has been a major issue for all candidates. The desired support for this additional megatrend is and will continue to grow.
Vojta’s plan to expand study programs with those that respond to the current situation not only in agriculture, but also in other fields that are closely related to Mendel University in Brno, can be very attractive for current and future students. All students will have the space to focus on their final theses, which will be unique and combined with practical skills.
Mendel University in Brno, as a research organization, is currently facing an unflattering evaluation, which during the following period the new rector and his team will try to reverse and thus strengthen competitiveness compared to other prestigious universities. Science and research, together with creative activity, have a very broad societal impact, which they also want to actively strengthen by supporting multidisciplinary collaborations.
“Thanks to the breadth of its pedagogical, scientific research or artistic activities, our university has great potential to play a leading role in today’s very dynamically changing world. We can speak to the development not only of the Czech Republic but of the Central European region in the next decade. Therefore, in order to do it, we define the most valuable thing we have, and that is you, dear colleagues.”
We wish the future rector of Mendel University in Brno a lot of success, strong nerves in decision-making and a great start to his future career.
