Mendel University in Brno is the oldest independent university with it’s specialization in the Czech Republic. It’s beginning was preceded by the efforts to establish a center of higher agricultural education in Moravia since 1864. These efforts failed due to political, economic and social factors.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has become an integral part of the Faculty of Agronomy of Mendel University with over 100 researchers working in an area of over 800 m² of world-class instrumented laboratories.
