Laboratory of plant metabolomics and epigenetics

The main vision of the laboratory is to master genetic engineering techniques, especially the Crispr/Cas9 and CRISPRi systems for regulation of gene expression. Taking into account the extreme weather changes and future food sources, the laboratory investigates how small RNAs (miRNAs, siRNAs) and other epigenetic mechanisms affect the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites.

Another research area is unicellular algae, which belong to organisms with a large source of genetic and metabolic diversity. Research on biologically active substances and their relationship to microalgae metabolism is currently underway, and the possibilities of metabolic engineering are being examined. New methods of microalgae cultivation and extraction of these compounds are also being sought. The research also focuses on the study of nanoparticles potentially useful in the protection of agricultural crops against abiotic and biotic stress factors and in the stimulation of production of biologically active substances.
